RIP -Paul Newman

Paul Newman died of cancer at 83. Newman became popular in the 1950s appearing in classic films as "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Exodus," "The Hustler," "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting" and "The Verdict." He won an Oscar in 1986 on his eighth try for "The Color of Money," a sequel to "The Hustler." Paul Newman political views earned a spot on Richard Nixon's enemies list Newman said "the highest single honor I've ever received," If you have never seen a Paul Newman film you might know him as the guy who makes salad dressing and other products his food company Newman's Own donates all profits to charities and has given away more than $200 million. Newman has done a lot o great films but the one that sicks out to me is Cool hand Luke.

Janelle Monae - Sincerely Jane

I heart Janelle Monae. I think she is very adorable, but enough of me crushing on this girl. I knew of her work for a while a friend of mine made me a mix of her stuff. If you were to put Judy Garland, James Brown, Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder, Outkast, Bach, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and The Hives and throw them in a blender that would describe Janelle Monae's sound.

I never really understand what Weezy says in his interviews, so when i saw his blog on ESPN i thought it would make no sense.
Weezy keeps it simple it is surprising a good read he talks about his fantasy football squad, the World Series and even discusses tennis. I to hear what his thought are on the current economic state of the United States. Weezy’s ESPN Blog.

As Tall As Lions

Im not a big Fan or opening acts some times there not so great but sometimes, you can be proven wrong. About a year ago I went to go see Coheed and Cambrea play in the city. The opening act was As Tall As Lions and i thought they were excellent. As Tall as Lions, is a band from Long Island, New York. They are a mix of Indie,Ambient Rock with slow melodies and a jazz feel at times. It amazes me how Nickelback is famous when a band like As Tall As Lions is a virtual unknown in the eyes or mainstream america... "Into the Flood" was a great EP, every song on "Into the Flood" is excellent but Love,Love,Love is there stand out track.

Here is the music video to Love, Love, Love

Songs for Luna

Love,Love,Love

This doesn't sound like something that should be ignored, does it?

Come Around

Nic's Groove

Call

DJ's are ppl to

So I was reading Melo –X ‘s blog. He vented about the wreck us Djs put up with. I agree with what he wrote word for word. I deejay 3 nights a week in Staten which is so close minded when it comes to music its either hip hop pop or house music there is no in between. We as deejays go thru what Doujah Raze coined Spinmata. That’s when good deejays get caught in the tidal wave of bullshit when working at a spot. When I was a just starting out I would try and make everyone happy now I play what I want. Now I, make the ppl hear what needs to be heard. Granted you still have to play the commercial in the spot it does keep asses at a bar, but now ill go off on like a 20 minute Tribe called quest set, or play Dilated peoples. People reading this please have some consideration for us DJ folk we have enough stress and don’t need more when you ask hey can you play some Hip hop you know like Brittney Spears that really happened true story. Just some food for thought.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd is Southern rock band. that became popular in 1973, the song most recognizable from Skynyrd is "Sweet Home Alabama". The band named themselves after there High-school gym teacher Leonard Skinnerd, it was a mock name but it caught on. Unfortunately 3 member of Lynyrd Skynyrd died in a plane crash. The plane ran out of fuel and crashed in a forest killing Singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines. The Drummer crawled out of the plane wreckage with several broken ribs, but was able to walk, hiked some distance from the crash to try and get help. Years later Ronnie Van Zant's little brother Johnny took over as lead singer. What is so great about Lynyrd Skynyrd was there musical abilities if you ever heard an album the guitar playing was like breathing for these dudes very organic at they time they did something not common they had 3 guitar players and that created layers to there music. Freebird is the perfect example of how amazing a guitar can be if done correctly they sounds great on a record and from the footage i have seen they play amazing live. The clips imm post show there live jam style playing some of Skynyrd's songs go over the 5 minute mark. You will get hyoed watching the Freebird video, and simple man is just an amazing tune. Enjoy

BABYGRANDE RECORDS SIGNS LEGENDARY D.I.T.C. PRODUCER/EMCEE DIAMOND D--ANNOUNCES OCTOBER 14th NEW LP "THE HUGE HEFNER CHRONICLES"

Legendary Producer/MC/DJ Diamond D, constituent of the seminal collective D.I.T.C. (also included Fat Joe, Big L. & more), has signed a multi-album deal with renowned indie Babygrande Records. His inaugural release with the label will be October 14th's "The Huge Hefner Chronicles," Diamond's third official release and first offering in 3+ years.

A classic and respected talent, Diamond D. got his start as a member of D.I.T.C., but soon parlayed this success into a thriving solo career, which included the release of the widely regarded classic "Stunts Blunts & Hip-Hop" in 1992. His second solo offering, 1997's "Hatred, Passions & Infidelity," featured appearances from such A-list luminaries as Busta Rhymes, Phife Dawg, Pete Rock & more.

Over the years, aside from independently releasing his subsequent two LP's, Diamond has remained an active participant behind the boards, having contributed his trademark style to some of the most iconic records in hip-hop history including The Fugees' "The Score," A Tribe Called Quest's "The Low End Theory," as well as releases by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch & many more.

With "The Huge Hefner Chronicles," Diamond returns to form, with a record that recalls the nostalgic stylings of the "golden age," while maintaining a contemporary sensibility accessible to the modern day hip-hop head.

"Funky Worm" by the Ohio Players.

The song "Funky Worm" by the Ohio Players. Is one of those songs that was sampled almost as much as Zapp & Roger's "More Bounce" The song's synthesizer solos have become a staple part in hip hop sampling history, being sampled in songs like Above The Law's "Black Superman", N.W.A's songs "Gangsta Gangsta and Dopeman", DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's "Boom! Shake the Room" and Xzibit's Shrooms. Shrooms is one of my favorite ways funky worm was flipped

K.West - Love Lockdown

What will Kanye's new album sound  like  the buzz that Love lockdown is generating is crazy. I mean in all honesty, his last album was sub par.. everyone sweats it and him, so its whatever, but i mean it was a decent album.. it was not great by any stretch.. didnt even come close to his first 2, which are classics.. what I do respect about Ye is Ye can make daring moves and can pull them off . I wasnt a fan of his before I went to see him at the Glow in the dark tour but after watching the show I gained a lot of respect for Ye. No one really knows if he rushing this album. Maybe he has throw away tracks not used on his pervious. what ever the case maybe he is no fool and will continue to cash in. IMO Kanye took over where Andre 3000 left off, they should just change the name from Love lockdown to autotune there is plenty here. Perception rules reality. Some songs you don’t like at first, but it does grow on your ears and this will be a club banger we all know this. The problem I have with this recording and i dont think its the final mix down is the chorus where the drums kick in and one of the catchiest pop hooks of today gets lost in the mix. and why is Ye’s scatting and humming instead of really selling his words with the fire he did on the VMA's ? Learn these words ppl the clubs will be singing them......

Cdq who knows click to listen

So keep your love lockdown

So keep your love lockdown

Something you need to own

I was working yesterday and i dont know how the conversation started about Frank Sinatra, my co worker said he is boring. I was taken a back not may twenty something our age enjoy Frank Sinatra, i think you have to get that type of music. Sinatra was around since the beginning of time lol, My family brought me up on Sinatra and other various genres. I was reading about him he is really a bad ass dude.

The dude was a teen idol in the 40ies. His career had stalled by the 1950s, but it was reborn in 1954 after he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He signed with Capitol Records and released several super popular albums, left Capitol which at the time was the biggest Label on the planet and started his own label Reprise Records and had a shit load of success. He drank all night smoke and dated the hottest ladies ever he ran with one of the greatest crews ever The Rat pack google all this shit and read up. The reason for this post is to tell you to go out and buy or download the best Sinatra album ever made "In the Wee Small Hours". It is with this album that Sinatra perfected the concept album, here is a quick background on why he made this record. In the Wee Small Hours used only ballads, the theme is about late-night isolation and lost love at the time his chick Actress Ava Gardner broke up with frank so like any other dude he wrote songs about a girl.

You lie awake and think about the girl and never, ever think of counting sheep. That is serious !!!

Joell Ortiz does his thing For Loud.com

I think the dude got skills very talented, I enjoyed "The Brick (Bodega Chronicles)" his debut album. This clip is a fast clip but the shit hits.

The Black Box Revelation

Don't get scared, I know you see a rock track posted on this page. Don't you worry your pretty little heads i still love hip hop music. I'm also a rock fan. little known fact about ya boy Sparks, i used to Drum in a indy rock band. Its good to have different musical tastes open ya ears folks. The Black Box Revelation, is a Belgian alternative rock band consisting of a guitarist / vocalist and drummer. The dude sounds like Mick Jagger, think The White Stripes if the White Stripes had talent. Anyways the song "I think I like you" caught my attention when i heard it on my radio station WSIA 88.9 fm. This is going to sound so cheese but it reminds me if a girl and every time i hear it, it brings thoughts of this girl. I guess she was dirty and sexy and this track would be something i know she would enjoy. So this goes out to all the dirty rocker girls ( and i mean that in the sincerest of ways i <3 you all)

i think i like you

Christian rap ?

You know what's funny as you grow your musical taste change, when i used to go to sunday school and the teacher tired to play us christian music about jesus, i used to laugh and just tune it out. Im not a die hard Catholic. I do go to church on the regular and believe in god dont get me wrong, but hearing music about the lord wasn't my thing. Fast forward years later as my hip hop taste grew I started to have an open ear. On my radio tuesday night 10 p.m. till 2 am WSIA 88.9 fm we used to play a game called blast it or trash it. Thats when i heard Theory Hazit the first track  "Lesson In Power" off his album "Extra Credit". The Album as a whole is worth buying trust me. His production skills are hella wicked also. Add him as your buddy on the Space http://www.myspace.com/theoryhazit

Here is "Lession in Power"

Redman is that dude

Big shouts to DOC on this one. Redman is that dude he speaks the truth and that is what i respect about him. I think todays younger Hip-Hop audience sleeps on talented Lyricist like Redman, we spoke about this in detail when the Funk Doc stopped by my radio show on WSIA 88.9 fm. When i find the audio i will post in here. i have a few youtube clip i will share in another post. Red is the type of emcee that can do it all mix comedy with his music but yet keep a gritty feel where its not to over the top, any artist that can and still make hot records like Redman will always get play on my program. DOC I SEE YOU GILLA

Borat aint got shit on this dude

lol @ the interviewer. I cant hate the dude is knocking out some solid interviews with some of the greats. The ending is the best part.

keep on rockin in the free world lol

Da Incredible Rap Team

I remember the day I first heard Heltah Skeltah. I must have been 16. My cousin Sal who is the reason i got into hip hop was bumpin "I Ain't Havin' That", off there second release "Magnum Force". We must have drove around a few hundred times just playing that cd in it entirety. A few days later i went to Fatbeats bought "Nocturnal" and kept "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka" on repeat. Heltah Skeltah new cd is called D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team) . Here is Everything Is Heltah Skeltah. The video is a little strange but thats what rocks about it.

Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet

I have a cold so i was just being a bum today. I dug thru the record collection and vibed out to Fear of a Black Planet. From top to bottom, there isn't a weak spot anywhere on this release...okay...maybe 911 is a Joke is a little soft but the track had a great message. But overall, the production value is off the charts, the bombs squad's production on this record is great. the diversity they pulled together for this album is amazing (listen to burn hollywood burn). I know a lot of people will say Nation was a better album. Fear is as close to a perfect album.

Maino "put On" freestyle

Maino does serious work on Jeezy's "Put On" i've been a believer of Maino's since 2000. i have had the privilege of interviewing him for my radio show on WSIA 88.9 fm on two separate occasion's. imma find the audio of the most recent interview and post it at a later time. support this dude when his album drops.

Hustle Hard & Stack paper.

Raphael Saadiq- Love That Girl

If i did not know any better i would assume this track is a Smokey Robinson track.  if you dont know who Smokey Robinson is step ya goddamn game up. Saadiq made a name for himself as the lead vocalist in Tony! Toni! TonĂ©! his new album will feature contributions from Joss Stone on a track called "Just One Kiss" as well as Stevie Wonder on a track called "Never Give You Up". The album is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2008. Its baby making friday PPL lol

Robin Thicke - Magic

ive always been a fan of Robin Thicke. My last girlfriend had his tunes on repeat so that is how i got put on to his music. A few months ago he was getting interviewed on HOT 97 in NYC, his interview was very down to earth dude has an appreciation for all genres of music. That shows  in his music as far as i can tell (from Wikipedia) the song is all original.  How can you not dig 70 soul ppl. this baby making music now imma find a random girl and just plant a seed on principle alone.
